While his early career featured a series of horror films, leading some to pigeonhole him as a "cult horror director" - Figgis’ creative trajectory has shifted significantly over the years. Especially after the birth of his daughter Maybelle in 2017, his interest has gravitated more toward art-house independent films and feature documentaries. As a director, his style is defined by a meticulous eye for detail, breathtaking cinematography, and vivid symbolism.

In addition to directing, Figgis is an established screenwriter with a distinct voice, known for his conscious approach to character development and his ability to capture the beauty within human frailty. His most recent feature film, LOOKER (starring Steven Jess, Peter M. Smith, Katherine Lynch, and Brian Kennedy) received Honourable Mention at the 2026 Underground Cinema Film Festival in Dublin.
